In an unassuming corner off Nguyễn Trãi in Ho Chi Minh City lies Banh Mi 37 Nguyen Trai, a small Banh Mi pushcart, with an international following and snaking lines of hungry customers.

For the uninitiated, a Banh Mi is a Vietnamese French-baguette sandwich usually filled with cold cuts, offal and a variety of fresh and pickled vegetable. But Banh Mi 37’s sandwiches are quite different from run-of-the-mill variations. Specializing in banh mi Nem Nướng, they are stuffed with grilled pork patties, luxurious sticky brown gravy, and freshly cut chunks of cucumber. They have a crisp bite, succulent meat and the sauce is cloys to your mouth leaving you craving for more.
