Tips for that perfect S’mores evening!

While that’s definitely the basic idea…. But we can one up that!

Since the marshmallow-doneness is key, it can either make or break your s’more. Your ideal level of gooeyness is totally subjective, and it should be embraced. But it’s also worth knowing what else is out there. For example, if all you know is the “char,” when the marshmallow catches fire and you have to blow it out, you’ll never know how delightful it is to have a center that is completely melted. That’s because you’re still going to have a super dense, cold center despite the blackened, bitter exterior. Personally, we like them lightly toasted but gooey on the inside, which takes a little patience because you need a “slow, low, rolling roast.”


the biggest mistake people make when it comes to roasting s’mores is being impatient. That’s why so many of us rush the roasting step and burn our marshmallows. The good news is that if you do it right, it should really only take about two minutes max to go from bag to bite. We try to find a flat space or plate near the fire where I can set my graham cracker with the chocolate on it so while I’m toasting my marshmallow it’s sitting there melting.
Preparation is key


When it comes to toasting marshmallows, it’s all about personal preference. Whether you like a perfectly golden, intact ‘mallow or a charred, black blob, you should always feel entitled to create the marshmallow of your dreams. Sometimes a little char is kinda nice…


S’mores are a near-perfect feat of a dessert, but if they’re missing one thing it’s salt. If salty and sweet is what you live and die for, this is the new way you must make all of your s’mores. Rich, buttery, perfectly salty salty will make an excellent vehicle for marshmallow and chocolate.

Ultra-thin, ultra-crispy packaged chocolate chip cookies, are perfect for sandwiching marshmallow and chocolate. Or, use a cracked open Oreo. You could also use your favorite homemade cookie as your s’more “bun.”

Almost any of these tricks for upping your s’more game can be mixed and matched: Make your s’more on a cookie and also add Nutella. Add ice cream and also peanut butter to your s’more. Use crackers as your marshmallow holder, but also add a layer of jam to them. To encourage creativity, you and your kids can set up a s’more-topping table out by the fire, and they can mix and match added ingredients to their liking, trying out different approaches!
