Soalheiro – Primeiras Vinhas Alvarinho

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

This is, without a doubt, the most exquisite and concentrated Alvarinho I’ve ever tasted. Color is a pale golden color. Ancient essential oils, peaches, rainfall, and a hint of citrus combine to create a delightful perfume. This wine is fascinating, delicate, and young on the palate, with notes of apples, melon, green pear, lemon peel, and clementine. This is a delightfully delicious wine that I would simply drink by itself.

Winery: Soalheiro
Grapes: Alvarinho
Region: Portugal / Minho / Vinho Verde / Monção e Melgaço
Wine style: Portuguese Vinho Verde White
Alcohol content: 13%

Peter Michael – L’Après-Midi Sauvignon Blanc

Rating: 5 out of 5.

The nose is quite fresh, with citrus dominating, notes of grapefruit, and very faint undertones of banana. When you sip it, you’ll notice a lot of acidity and a lot of minerality. Tropical fruits like banana, mango, and guava control the flavor profile. There’s a lot of honesty and restraint here. Citrus dominates the whole journey. This bottle is definitely worth the expenditure and goes great with Cantonese steamed fish.

Winery: Peter Michael
Grapes: Sauvignon Blanc
Region: United States / California / Sonoma County / Knights Valley
Wine style: Californian Sauvignon Blanc
Alcohol content: 15.4%

Dona Maria – Amantis Reserva Branco

Rating: 4 out of 5.

What a lovely Viognier from Aletenjo; its balance and depth wowed me. Amantis is a Latin word that means “one who loves.” This is a complex white with high fruit concentration and lively acidity, fermented and matured for 6 months in 400L french oak vats with bâtonnage. This is an estate grown wine of exceptional finesse is buttery, creamy, fragrant with hints of mango, salinity, white flowers, and tangerines.

Winery: Dona Maria
Grapes: Viognier
Region: Portugal / Alentejano / Alentejo
Wine style: Southern Portugal White
Alcohol content: 13.5%

Domaine Leflaive – Mâcon-Verzé

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

On the nose, butter, lemon, honey, sandalwood, and slate. More of the same on the palate, with some pear and stone fruit. I detected hints of bright strawberries and rock melon, as well as a pronounced minerality. Macon-verze was intense, delicate but potent, and I loved the overall balance.

Winery: Domaine Leflaive
Grapes: Chardonnay
Region: France / Bourgogne / Mâcon-Villages
Wine style: Burgundy Mâconnais White

Cellers Grifoll Declara – El Gos Blanc

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

With a creamy palate, this is a very lovely entrance. Lychees and white blossoms It’s intense, but it’s just a few minutes long. It was excellent with a delicious paella with Vilanova gambas and a simple salad.

Grapes: Grenache blanc
